THE ABACUS
This is a manual computing device that consists of a frame holding
parallel rods strung with movable counters. It is an ancient
calculating tool known to be invented between 2400BC and 300BC.
The use of the word "Abacus" originated before 1387 when it was
borrowed from Latin to describe a primitive sand board tool. Abacus
was derived from "Abakos" which is a Greek genitive form of the word
"Abax" meaning calculating table.
